Before and after the 2010/2011 Earthquakes

 The people who live in Christchurch are so proud of their newly opened library.  Certainly moving forward after the devastation of the earthquakes.  Nature will not conquer the human spirit.
The PricewaterhouseCoopers building ... the car park is fully submerged and the 2cm thick rio is twisted like spaghetti.

Engineers have learnt a great deal since the devastion of the quakes and construction now allows to withstand earthquakes.  Foundations are as deep as the building height and steel structures are bolted rather than welded to allow for movement.
